Style Spotlight on: Hitchcock's 'The Birds'

I love birds, they're so cute with their little twiggy legs, and the way they puff up their stomachs when it's cold. I watch them from my window, cute cute cute. In contrast Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds' (based on Daphne du Maurier's Novella) does not feature nice cute 'Disney' birds. His birds are bloody awful, savage monsters. Native to Bodega Bay, they attack socialite (but sweetheart) Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren) who only road tripped there to impress the rather beautiful brooding Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor). Wrong place. Wrong time. The beasts.

If you haven't checked out this film it's well worth a peep- not only for its cult status but also for the sensational sixties vibe- all in glorious technicolour- from the bright green of Melanie's suit to the turquoise hue of her eyeshadow. It's got avian attacking frenzy a plenty, add to that a petrol fire and a pyjama clad dead body and you've got yourself a corker.

If you'd like to look like girl about town Melanie (minus the frightening flock) here are a few pieces to get you started:
