A few RTW Spring/Summer 2011 Campaigns

Chances are when you leaf through the March issue of any given fashion magazine you'll be seeing a fair few Ad campaigns staring back at you. From cat fights to family portraits, Ready to Wear campaigns were scorching with Spring Summer written all over it. Here are my favourites:

MISSONI: Family and Friends by Juergen Teller

Shot in the wonderful of 'Museum of Everything', a display of all of eccentricities and curated by James Brett, three generations of the Missoni Family and friends like Leighton Meester and Jasmine Guinness wear explosions of colour, unafraid of teaming their pieces with the cluttered background to create one mishmash of brilliance. Angela Missoni comments "the idea of the campaign came from the album cover of 'St. Peppers Lovely (sic) Heart Club Band'. The artwork, a colourful spectacular mosaic of colours, faces and looks was to me perfectly capturing the mood of my SS2011 collection, its silhouetted freestanding-like shapes" To accompany the print campaign, young photographer Mel Bles created this video:

LANVIN by Steven Meisel

Iselin Steiro and Kinga Rajzak have a Dynesty inspired catfight amidst a plush Seventies estate. Shot by Steven Meisel, the demure, poised feel we're used to in campaigns is turned on its head- the frantic, dramatic movement of Steiro and Rajzak's hair whipping up around their faces, their arms stacked in heavy bracelets and straps is a stark contrast to the soft ethereal collection of dresses the models are draped in. Drama drama drama.

STELLA McCARTNEY by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

Pioneers of digital manipulation, photographer team Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott mimic the pieces worn on the right side of the photograph (worn by models Joan Smalls and MaƂgosia Bela) on the left with a cut paper, textured effect which accentuates the colours of their respective partnered piece. The citrus print bag takes centre stage, covering a nude Bela and remiscent of Guy Bourdin, a french photographer and heavy influence of Mert and Marcus. Know the world over for their portraits of the sophisticate, efficacious woman, Mert and Marcus lend an unmistakeable sense of perfection to advertising.

MIU MIU by  Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott

This season Miu Miu's campaign is inspired by performance and the stage. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, models Querelle Jansen, Sasha Pivovarova and Kasia Struss showcase bolero jackets and silk dresses in jewel tones in different hall-of-mirror esque views amongst a contrasting background of a stark black backdrop and a rich red floor. In true Miu Miu tradition there is also the obligatory zoomed in photograph of the shoes- this time setting the scene aglow with neon flats.

PRADA by Steven Meisel

Models Mariacarla Boscono, Arizona Muse, Kinga Rajzak, Zuzanna Bijoch and Tati Cotliar pose in print. Still capturing the essence of Steven Meisel's video campaign, they look like they are in movement, as if each photo is a snapshot of the video. With Prada's prints of bananas and monkeys and Steve Meisel's bold photographic style it is a match made in Advertisement heaven- a relationship which began in 2004- Meisel has photographed Prada campaigns ever since.
